Becoming The Enemy

The lessons of history are often read but rarely taken in to the present. The victims become instigators and make victims of their own. It's a vicious circle that can range from a slap on the face to mass murder. The dilemma has always been in knowing how to measure our reactions. What has been done to us does not give us permission to do the same to others but a certain leniency is often found for a victim of circumstance. What interests me is the line that separates the justified act from simply becoming what we abhor.
I see things as cause and effect and dismiss the notion of inherent good or evil. The Universe works on action and reaction, at least to our understanding. The laws of nature work in cycles and any interruption in these cycles will set varied cycles in motion. If we look on mankind as basically willing to survive then a man or woman will react to any threat to that will. Yet some will react more strongly than others. Some will push to further extremes and feel totally justified in doing so. The question is: At what point have we crossed the line?
